Client Resources
Therapy Process (What to Expect)
Starting therapy is a significant step, and I want to make the process as clear and comfortable as possible. Here is what you can expect as we begin our work together:
The Introductory Consultation (20 Minutes)
I offer a complimentary 20-minute consultation for new clients. This short online or phone meeting is a gentle first step for us to connect. We will briefly talk about what brings you to counselling, and you can ask any questions about my approach. This is simply a space to see if we are a good fit.
Getting Ready
If you decide to move forward after our consultation, I will send you a few intake questionnaires and a consent form via email. These are standard forms required by professional and legal standards in Canada.
Note: There is no special preparation or artistic skill required for your sessions. You are welcome to come exactly as you are.
Your First Full Session &
Ongoing Work (60 Minutes)
Our first official session lasts 60 minutes. We will begin by reviewing your forms and discussing your initial goals. Whether you have a very clear concern or just a general feeling that you need support, we will work together to clarify what feels most important to focus on first.
All ongoing (subsequent) sessions are also 60 minutes long. During these regular meetings, we will follow your pace, combining verbal counselling with creative art therapy methods based on your comfort and goals.
Fees & Insurance
Extended Health Insurance
Many extended health insurance plans in Canada provide coverage for counselling services. Clients often receive partial or full reimbursement depending on their individual insurance plan.
Because insurance policies vary, I highly recommend confirming your coverage details directly with your insurance company before booking your first session.
Here are a few important questions to ask them:
- Whether counselling services are covered under your plan.
- Whether your plan covers counselling services provided by an ACCT Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC), or services provided by an Art Therapist.
- The specific amount covered per session.
- Your annual maximum coverage amount.
Direct Billing vs. Reimbursement
Please note that I do not offer direct billing to insurance companies. After each session, you will pay for the appointment and receive an official receipt. You can then submit this receipt directly to your insurance provider to get your reimbursement.
Payment
Sessions are paid for at the time of the appointment. Payment methods include:
- E-transfer
- Other secure online payment methods
